ELECTION RULES
2008 Southwest Coastal Area Local Election Committee: Jim Saiz, Chair Becky Saiz Connie Billings
The election period is from February 9, 2008 through March 27, 2008. 1. The last day to join the union in order to vote will be March 1, 2008. 2. Mailing list will be prepared and made available for review at the union office on March 6, 2008. 3. Mailing list will be given to the California Elections Company on March 10, 2008. 4. Ballots will be prepared for mailing on March 10, 2008 at the California Elections Company offices. 5. Ballots will be transported for mailing on March 10, 2008 from the California Elections Company office to the local post office. 6. All duplicate ballots must be requested prior to 5:00pm on March 19, 2008. Members can request a duplicate ballot from the union office by calling (714) 937-1228. A committee member will be on duty from March 11 through March 19, 2008. 7. Ballots must be received no later than 10:00am at the Election Committee Corona PO Box on March 27, 2008. The counting of ballots will begin shortly thereafter at the Southwest Coastal Area Local Union Office located at 1500 S. Sunkist St, Ste C, Anaheim, California, 92806. The phone number is (714) 937-1228. 8. Campaign material must be mailed at the candidate’s expense plus a $500.00 fee to cover the union’s expenses. The candidate and/or his/her committee members must do all the mail preparation at the union office in the presence of an Election Committee member. One week’s (7 days) advance notice must be given. The candidate or his/her designee may accompany the Election Committee member to the post office to put the mailing into the mail stream. 9. Only one (1) observer per candidate (this means either the candidate or his/her designee) will be allowed to review election material preparation and the counting of ballots. 10. No candidate may use the Coastal Line to run campaign material or candidate statements. 11. APWU bulletin boards in each installation will be made available to all candidates who wish to post campaign material for the duration of the election. Each candidate is limited to one piece of campaign material per APWU bulletin board. 12. Candidates will be listed on the ballot with the incumbent being listed first and then the rest in the order they are received. 13. Any candidate who feels aggrieved in connection with the conduct of the election shall file his/her appeal with the Election Committee within seventy-two (72) hours after his/her grievance arises. The term “election” includes the nominating procedure. (Article 16, Section 1, local constitution)
