The all craft convention at Las Vegas was a success. Although there were some problems with trying to put together craft conventions with all of the crafts at the same time, the National Union got through them and we have learned some lessons for the next time.
There was one day of general session for each of the crafts with the craft officers giving reports and taking questions from the members. The other two days were spent in training sessions. The training varied by craft and by subject. Some of the subjects were:
Problems with Arbitrability
Investigating Motor Vehicle Accidents
Documenting Maintenance Grievances
Union Stewards in the Information Age
Casuals in Lieu of
Negotiating LMOU's, and other subjects.
I attended two of the general sessions, and two of the training sessions. I believe that this conference was a good starting point, and I believe that in the future it will become a great training tool for old and new stewards alike.
